Coaching is a skillful methodology for developing self and others so that people are more effective and fulfilled It involves the development of increasing competence in the person being coached, ultimately benefiting the individual, company and the economy. - UCT Graduate school of Business

3 Formats of Coaching
Individual, one-on-one coaching
The coach works with an individual to achieve th goals and outcomes set and agreed by the person
Example: Company Executives, various management levels, private individuals, staff members etc
A team is regarded as a natural person, i.e. a group of people assembled (eg: selected, elected, picked) to achieve mutually agreed goals and outcomes for their own purposes and to the benefit of others.
Example:a Board, a business unit (eg: sales team), project team, a committee, an organization as a whole
A group in this case refers to a loose collection of individuals who share major areas of common interest (eg: new person in an organization, fellow mananters in the same copany. Executives from different companies, women etc.) wishing to be of assistance to one another. The coach works with (the) individuals in group context using the resources in the group to assist individual’s goals and outcomes.

The Centre for Coaching is one of the few coaching bodies in South Africa with both local and international accreditation.
Due to the nature of the coaching industry in South Africa in particular, it is vital that a client ensures the Life and Business Coach has the relevant accreditation which tells the public there are quality measures in place. The Centre for Coaching is currently the only coaching body in South Africa to have both local university and international coach accreditation and is recognised by the International Coach Federation – the largest coach association in the USA.
While in the past little measurement has been conducted on the effectiveness of coaching, one of the of the first studies to do so has been conducted at UCT and the results show that an accredited coaching course makes a major impact.
Through its affiliation with New Ventures West in the USA, courses are recognised and fully accredited by the International Coach Federation.
The Centre for Coaching’s programmes are all underwritten by the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business – and so are informed by both academic rigour and coaching practice.
